Born and raised in rural Vancouver, Lyle Sopel grew up with a strong affinity towards nature. From an early age he displayed a rare aptitude for the arts. Later, while still in his youth he traveled through Europe to study the Masters from France and Italy. Following his formal art education Lyle discovered his forte: sculpting with jade. Dedicating nearly a life-time towards mastering a medium that is harder than steel he works with passion and enthusiasm in his renaissance like studio/gallery.
Lyle has garnered international attention with his contemporary approach to working with jade and other semi-precious gemstones. Some of his signature works are permanent installations including a life-sized jade Buddha, and his most recent piece a nearly five-foot soaring jade pair of eagles mounted on a solid silver wave base. His Nature Inspired sculptures are exhibited in Gallery events, solo and group exhibitions. With an impressive list of notable collectors includes Former US President, George Bush Senior, the Duke and Duchess of Westminster UK, and H.H the Begum Sultan Mohamed Shah Agakhan III Paris France. He continues to accept private and public commissions as well as work in concert with prominent Fine Art Galleries.
The Plaza Galleries is proud to present the fine art of Lyle Sopel.
