Red Skelton, The Clown
Red Skelton was born Richard Bernard Skelton, July 18, 1913, in Vincennes, Indiana. His father, Joseph, a circus clown and college teacher, died two months before Skelton was born.
Of three sons, Red became the only entertainer; he is sometimes referred to today as "one of America's great clowns."
Skelton paints in oil, draws on linens, writes short stories and composes music. He has written about 5,000 songs, of which 2,000 are copyrighted. His music is included in two record albums: "Red Skelton Conducts" and "Red Skelton Conducts Music From The Heart." A spoken record, his interpretation of the Pledge of Allegiance, became a best-seller after recitation on the "Red Skelton Hour" of January 14, 1969.
The Plaza Galleries is proud to present the fine artwork of this legend, Red Skelton. |
