Artist Bio: DAVID MONTPETIT

Born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1951, David Montpetit is internationally acclaimed for his work with glass sculptures. His works are housed in numerous private and public collections world wide. His works have been publicly displayed in many prestigious galleries and museums including the Vancouver Art Gallery, The Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, The Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, The Museum of Man, Hull, Quebec, The Museum of Anthropology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Opera House in Amsterdam, Holland to name just a few.

Although David Montpetit has been involved in designing and the arts through his jewelry art work since the 1960’s, it wasn’t until 1991 that David began to work with glass. David’s initial exposure to glass as a sculptural medium began while he was working with Studio One Glass and then Bay Studios where he was involved in many large commercial and residential installations. It was here that he acquired the knowledge and experience of working with numerous techniques on glass.

In 1994, David Montpetit became the founding member of the Experimental Glass Group which led to the development of some unique techniques of his own and a distinctive approach to the use of glass as a contemporary medium.

Today David Montpetit is the leader in his field. His work ranges from custom installations in many public and private residences to his highly acclaimed Inuit Glass Totems. The Plaza Galleries in the Whistler Resort is pleased to present the fine art of David Montpetit.
