Artist Bio: TOM LAMONT
Tom Lamont was born in 1949 in Prince Edward Island. As the son of an R.C.A.F officer, Tom Lamont’s earliest years were spent traveling across Europe and various parts of Canada. This incredible opportunity to live in so many places, allowed Tom to see the world through the eyes of so many people that he met along the way.
Although Tom Lamont’s creativity was evident even at a young age, it wasn’t until he was a young man working for the Forestry Services in the lookout towers in Northern British Columbia that he developed his true passion for wildlife. As Tom began carving, his respect for the balance of nature and his appreciation for the natural inhabitants of the forest, were evident even in his earliest of works.
A truly dedicated artist, Tom Lamont works in a variety of material which he personally selects for their unique color, texture and variation. Tom Lamont is able to magically transform a cold, hard stone into a warm, almost life-like sculpture with a personality of it’s own. With whimsical “smiles” and “signature” black noses, Tom Lamont’s bears are distinctive.
From his dynamic and extremely personable bears, to his graceful and delicate marine life, Tom Lamont’s sculptures are typically recognized both by their design as well as through his use of inlaid stones. The Plaza Galleries in the Whistler Resort is proud and privileged to present the unique sculptures of Canadian artist Tom Lamont.
