Irene Gendelman

Irene Gendelman was born and raised in Crimea, Ukraine, where she pursued her formal education and took her earliest steps into the art world.

The Black Sea, majestic mountains, and the narrow winding streets of Old Crimea provided all the inspiration young Irene needed to dream of becoming an artist. From a very early age, her fascination with the visual arts was unmistakable, and this passion flourished throughout her education, from school through university, where she immersed herself fully in painting and music.

Her artistic curiosity was shaped not only by landscapes, but by movement. She has always been drawn to dynamic compositions—busy street scenes full of life, movement, and character. These scenes captivated her imagination early on, offering endless layers of stories, expressions, and architectural rhythms. Irene seeks not simply to depict a place, but to convey the pulse of its atmosphere and emotion.

Her technique is central to this expression. Irene paints with a high relief of texture, building sculptural surfaces through multiple layers of pallete knife applications. This technique gives her work extraordinary depth, creating shadows, contours, and dimensionality that shift as the light moves across the canvas.

With a distinctive balance of palette knife and brushwork, she shapes each scene with emotion and intent. Broad pallete knife strokes evoke the weight and solidity of the scene, while refined brush details breathe softness into the composition.

  • It was later in her career that Irene discovered an entirely new passion—when the mountains called to her, and skiing became not merely a pastime, but a new language of inspiration. Though she had long been inspired by the vibrant rhythm of urban life, she began to feel a deep pull toward something more peaceful and rooted in nature. A spontaneous skiing getaway proved transformative. The thrill and adrenaline of carving through snow, the breathtaking stillness of alpine landscapes, and the charm of mountain resorts awakened something profound within her.

What captivated her most was not only the vastness of the mountains, but the warmth and the sense of togetherness shared among families and friends. The mountains offered her both exhilaration and peace, motion and stillness. From that point on, the alpine world became not just a destination, but a guiding inspiration, reshaping her artistic direction and opening an entirely new chapter in her creative journey.

Today, Irene embraces the best of both worlds, reflecting both the vibrant pulse of the city and the profound serenity of the mountains in her work. Her paintings stand at the crossroads of movement and stillness, adventure and calm, capturing the richness of life in all its contrasts. Through this balance, she invites viewers into a world where the urban and the natural coexist—each amplifying the beauty of the other, and each revealing a different facet of her artistic soul.
